Crawley Town Hall is 50

Crawley Town Hall is 50 years old this month and a photo exhibition celebrating this milestone starts next Monday in the foyer of the building.

The building was officially opened on the 14th of November 1964 by MP Michael Stewart, the Secretary of State for Education and Science.

The Town Hall was built to serve a town of 75,000-80,000 people but the capability to expand upwards and northwards was included. Northward expansion, which included the multi-storey car park, took place in 1989.

Redhill Commuters Demand Discount

Redhill Commuters are demanding a 25% season ticket discount. This is to compensate for the disruption caused by the London Bridge station rebuilding work.

The rebuilding works mean that the busy 08:02 and 08:31 trains from Redhill are already being diverted via Victoria and from January the 06:56 and 07:51 will be axed.

Around 540 people have signed a petition calling for a discount on season tickets, which cost up to £3,400.00 pounds.

Southern apologised for the disruption, but said it would not be able to offer a discount. It also said it had worked hard to timetable as many trains as possible into London Bridge.

Criminal gang linked to 40 burglaries across Sussex

A number of burglaries across Sussex are believed to have been carried out by the same group of criminals.

Officers believe the people involved vary between locations but are part of the same organisation which may be responsible for 40 burglaries.

Between 17 September and 28 October areas targeted included Copthorne, East Grinstead, Crawley and Crawley Down.

A silver Audi has been used as a getaway car, using false number plates.

The burglars are targeting homes in some of the more expensive areas.  They break doors or windows to get in and after searching the properties steal items with a preference for gold jewellery.

Surrey Police carry out anti-terrorism survey in schools

Teenagers have been identified as people who are, in particular, targeted by extremist or terrorist-related organisations.

The government has a strategy in place, called ‘Prevent’, which aims to support and safeguard those between 14 and 19 years old from the risks of terrorism and extreme views linked to it.

Surrey Police is carrying out a survey at schools and colleges throughout Reigate and Banstead as part of an anti-terrorism process.

They want to find out how much young people know about the strategy; how to report concerns and access support networks.

The survey is being conducted over the next 6 weeks.
