Crawley Cemetery Consultation

Little Trees in Crawley could become the site of a new cemetery.

The council-owned land is currently used as a campsite for the Guides however it is now being earmarked as an area large enough to cater for demand for up to 50 years.

A variety of assessments were carried out including traffic impact; any wildlife or protected species using the area and a ground investigation checking water levels.

The Guides have agreed to move from Little Trees to Tilgate Forest Recreation Centre.

A consultation is running until November 11th.

High Speed Broadband

A key milestone has been reached as the 500th high speed broadband cabinet in a project to make Surrey the best connected county was unveiled by Council deputy leader Peter Martin.

More than 75,000 businesses and homes that would otherwise have missed out on the opportunity to get better broadband are now covered by the high-speed technology.

The Superfast Surrey project is hoping to reach more than 80,000 premises which fall outside the private sector’s commercial plans. It aims to create a county-wide network to ensure nearly every community enjoys the benefits of the digital world.
The 500th cabinet was installed in Oxshott.

Surrey Care Homes Closing

Six local authority-run care homes in Surrey are facing closure because of the unsuitability of the buildings.

Surrey county council has said that the buildings were not designed to meet present standards for accommodation.

The homes are Brockhurst in Ottershaw, Park Hall in Reigate, Cobgates in Farnham, Dormers in Caterham, Longfield in Cranleigh, and Pinehurst in Camberley.

Over 400 jobs are under threat and Surrey County Council has begun a consultation on the future of the homes following a comprehensive review.
