Three Bridges FC Manager appointed Chairman

Three Bridges FC Manager Paul Faili has been appointed chairman of the team following the stepping down of Paul Terry.

After 19 years at the club, he was appointed at the club’s AGM on Friday and has the position on an interim basis.

He said that he is massively proud but that it’s not a position he wants permanently, adding that anyone who has the necessary experience and qualifications should come forward for the position.

Faili will be working with the same board, with youth manager Kenny Towning as his vice chairman.

Ebola scare at Gatwick Airport

After fears that Ebola could have reached Gatwick over the weekend, test results of an elderly woman who died at the airport came back negative for the contagious virus.

The female passenger who travelled to the UK from the Gambia collapsed at Gatwick airport and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Public Health England says the risk of the deadly Ebola virus in the UK remains very low and that the test was only carried out as a precaution.

Over 700 people have died of Ebola in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia this year in the worst ever outbreak of the disease.

Construction Course Opportunities in Redhill

As part of a revamp of the Redhill Memorial park, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is working to offer two construction courses for people aged between 16 and 30.

Teaming up with Construction Youth Trust and Redhill training academy, the courses are to take place between August and September in Redhill.

They will focus on carpentry and give trainees the opportunity to obtain a CSCS card.

Councellor Natalie Bramhall says it’s a fantastic opportunity for those looking to get a foot on the construction career ladder.

Each course runs for three days a week for four weeks and there are only eight spots on each.

And in football, 3 goals in the last 11 minutes sent Crawley Town to a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea under-21s in their final pre-season friendly at the Broadfield Stadium.

Crawley were in control at half-time thanks to a terrific volley from Josh Simpson and Izale McLeod’s low finish.

John Gregory changed the entire team during the second half and The Reds struggled to maintain their superiority and Chelsea struck three times to stun Crawley’s fans.

WW1 Candle Remembrance Advice

Sussex Firefighters are reminding those taking part in tonight’s WW1 ‘Lights Out’ remembrance campaign to take care with their candles.

Lights Out is a national initiative that marks 100 years since the outbreak of World War 1. As a mark of remembrance the Royal British Legion is encouraging people to turn off their lights from 10pm to 11pm leaving a single light or candle on for a shared moment of reflection.

With more than 50 fires started nationally by candles every day, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are asking people to take a little extra care if they are planning to join the remembrance by lighting a candle. They’ve released a list of common sense safety measures:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Always place candles and tea lights well away from curtains, furniture or flammable materials and out of draughts
  • Always place candles upright in suitable holders on a stable surface
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets
  • Ensure that candles or tea lights are placed in suitable heat resistant holders
  • Working smoke alarms save lives, make sure your home and loved ones are protected.
