Local Football Roundup

Crawley Town ended a run of four consecutive League One defeats with an Izale McLeod goal enough to defeat Fleetwood at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

And it’s FA Cup time again… In the first qualifying round, Redhill beat Carshalton Athletic 1 – 0 at Kiln Brow, while Merstham drew 2 all with Chipstead and it was the same scoreline for South Park in their home encounter with the Met Police.

In the two Ryman South matches this weekend, Three Bridges had an excellent 4 – 1 away win at Corinthian Casuals while East Grinstead Town were hammered 5 – 1 at home to Guernsey.

The value of talking

It’s World Suicide Prevention Day today.

West Sussex County Council is reminding people that support is available to anyone who may be having suicidal thoughts.

They say not to go through it alone but to talk to someone with GPs as the best place to start – They can suggest treatment and if necessary refer you to a specialist.

Fostering drop in day

A fostering drop in day is to take place at Crawley library on Thursday the 18th this month.

The session, which is organised by West Sussex County Council, is designed to give people a chance to speak to members of the Council’s fostering team, ask questions and find out more about what being a foster carer involves.

Dog walker assaulted on a footpath

A woman was assaulted while she was walking her dog in Crawley on a footpath between Matthews Drive and Bennett Close on Saturday.

Police have now identified a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the incident.

The 30-year-old-man contacted the police himself about his involvement.

Sniffer dog fighting crime

A sniffer dog discovered illegal tobacco worth 2-thousand-pounds in a raid on Monday.

The dog, whose name is Pheobe, helped officers from trading standards find 260 packets of cigarettes and 103 pouches of loose tobacco in a Crawley business.

The seized tobacco had probably been smuggled into the UK to avoid taxes.
