Bewbush Fight

Sussex Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward after a fight in Crawley on the evening of Sunday July 27th.

Seven people were arrested and subsequently released on police bail while the investigation continues.

District police commander Chief Inspector Justina Beeken said that they are working with Crawley Borough Council and other agencies to tackle the issues that caused this incident.

For the council, Councillor Chris Oxlade noted that a lot of positive work takes place in Bewbush and that the neighbourhood has a great sense of community which wouldn’t be undermined by such events.

If you witnessed Sunday’s incident or you have any information about the background to it or those involved, please call 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1628 of 27/07.

Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Dobbins Pond Ifield

Dobbins Pond in Ifield West was emptied recently in preparation for work to transform it into a quiet, family-friendly place to enjoy.

Work to remove weeds and rebuild the spillway to improve water flow and prevent stagnation will take place first; followed by improved paths around the pond and two picnic areas located near the playground to make life easier for mums, dads and carers.

And the work is expected to be complete by early autumn.

Offensive Facebook Comments

A Merstham man was given a 12 month community order after pleading guilty to making racially offensive comments on Facebook.

Mark Weston admitted the offence at Redhill Magistrates’ Court last Friday (25th July).

He was found to have posted grossly offensive messages on the social networking site earlier this year.

In light of this case, Surrey Police is reminding people to think twice before making comments online which could offend others.
