In the FA Cup preliminary round, both Merstham who beat Ringmer four nil and South Park, who overcame Thamsmead Town by two goals to one — progress to the next round. Redhill face a replay after a nil nil draw with Horsham YMCA.

FGM explained at Gatwick

In a move to raise awareness of Female Gentile Mutilation Police held a workshop for people employed at Gatwick Airport.
The workshop took place on Wednesday this week in the hope of highlighting the issue and explaining the signs to identify victims.
People heard about the procedure, which is mostly performed on young girls, predominantly from African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities and also listened to the story of a survivor of FGM.

Man fined for drug driving and sending a text

A 22-year-old-man who had been texting while high on drugs behind the wheel of his car has been banned from driving.
In June a Policeman spotted Billy Pool on his mobile as he was driving his Volkswagen Polo in London Road, East Grinstead. The officer followed him into a nearby road and arrested him.
Pool, of West Street in East Grinstead, pleaded guilty to the charges and was banned from driving for a year.
He was also fined £300, had to pay £85 in costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
A total of 59 people have now been convicted of offences after being arrested in June as part of Operation Dragonfly, Sussex Police’s crackdown on drink and drug driving.

Career criminal jailed

A burglar who stole about £700, 000 worth of goods over the course of five years was sentenced on Tuesday to half a decade in prison.
Anthony Murray, of Purley Way in Croydon, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court, having admitted two charges of burglary, with a further 102 to be taken into consideration.
The 31-year-old’s crime spree extended across the entire county – where he focused on stealing high value jewellery and electronic items.
Surrey police have been holding open days this month to give property back to their original owners.

Fostering discussed at Crawley Mela

The council’s fostering team will be at the Crawley Mela this weekend.

They will be available to talk about how rewarding and meaningful fostering is.

The Mela will be taking place at The Hawth in Crawley to celebrate people from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
