Redhill Tatooist Convicted

A man has been prosecuted for operating as an illegal tattooist.

The Scratcher, as they are known in the trade, was found guilty in his absence by Redhill Magistrates Court.

David Lee Streeton was fined £700 and a victim surcharge of £70.

Surrey Recycling

Residents in Surrey are being asked for feedback about their recycling habits.

The County Council runs 15 recycling centres and the survey aims to find out which centres people visit, how often as well as the type of waste they recycle and questions whether people would buy products such as reusable furniture and compost.

The survey can be found on the Surrey County Council website and is available until 20th July.

Baggage Delays at Gatwick

Passengers at Gatwick have been facing delays of up to 90 minutes to reclaim their baggage.

The airport’s apologised blaming a staff shortage at Swissport – one of the three baggage handling companies working at Gatwick.

It said it was required it to deliver bags from each flight “within 55 minutes”. For passengers with longer waits the airport has offered to send their bags on to them.

Crawley House Struck by Lightning

A house in Bewbush was hit by lightning on Saturday afternoon. No one was hurt but the roof was seriously damaged in the strike.

Two crews of firefighters attended the scene and helped to patch the hole in the roof and to make the electrical supply safe,

This was one of several lightning strikes on houses in Crawley at the weekend.

New Chief Constable for Sussex

Sussex has a new Chief Constable. Giles York’s appointment was confirmed yesterday (30 June).

He’s been temporary Chief Constable for Sussex Police since March of this year, having previously been a deputy with responsibilities for performance.

Mr Giles has cited that his first and most important priority is protecting vulnerable people.

He’s also keen on emphasising the importance of ethics and professionalism in the job.
