Aggravated Burglary in Charlwood

Two men with a knife woke up a woman and forced her to open the safe at the Greyhound Pub in Charlwood.

The burglary happened at around 5:30 on Thursday morning.

Police believe the burglary was targeted because the burglars made very specific demands.

Investigators are working to establish exactly how much cash was actually stolen.

500th Apprenticeship Recruited

Jack Cole is the 500th apprentice to be recruited through a Surrey County Council scheme to get teenagers into work.

Under Surrey’s initiative, employers receive £750 from the county council for each apprentice they take on in addition to any national funding.

A target of creating 500 more apprenticeship roles has been set for next April.

 

Man Attacked Outside Horley Pub

A man has been assaulted with a baseball bat in Horley in what is thought to have been a homophobic attack.

The incident occurred just before 9.50pm on Tuesday the 11th of  March outside the Air Balloon pub on Brighton Road.

The victim, a man in his 20s, did not require treatment for the injuries he suffered to his lower back during the assault.

The offender left the scene in a blue car which and heading in the direction of Crawley.

Drink Drive Crackdown Still Having Effect

Effects of a crackdown on drink-and-drug driving over the Christmas period is still being felt.

Another 23 drivers have been banned from the road after being caught by Sussex Police over the festive period.

One such driver is 58 year old Michael Nunn. He was arrested after his car struck three parked vehicles in Lingfield Road, East Grinstead back in December. Nunn pleaded guilty to drink-driving and has been banned from driving for 20 months, fined £475 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

91 people have now been convicted of offences during the crackdown – a further 54 drivers are currently on bail.

Redhill Charity Football Match

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Surrey Crimestoppers are set to benefit from a charity football match being held later this month.

Coaching staff from Chelsea Football Club Foundation will play the Reigate & Banstead Mayoral XI at Redhill Football Club on 23rd March.

The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr, Dr Lynne Hack, is hosting the match to raise funds for her chosen charities.

Former England cricketer and local resident Phil Tufnell will also take to the field – acting as a goalie during a half-time penalty shoot-out with pupils from local schools.
