Surrey Road Repairs

The budget set aside to fix Surrey’s damaged streets has had a boost of £3 million pounds due to savings found in the first year of a major county council roads programme.

The programme was launched last April to overhaul 300 miles of surrey’s most damaged roads.

The money will boost funds for both planned repairs and thousands of urgent pothole patching works.

In urgent response to flood damage across Surrey’s roads since Christmas, the county council is fixing hundreds of potholes a day as part of a repair blitz.

Emergency crews were called to a blaze in Crawley last Tuesday.

The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, causing severe damage to the property in Regents Close.

The ground floor flat was completely gutted by fire, with 10% of the first floor flat also suffering heat and smoke damage.

Meanwhile, later that morning, a driver had to be freed from his vehicle after it hit a bridge on the Northbound M23 after Junction 11 Pease Pottage.

Hydraulic equipment had to be used by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to release the man, who was then taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Redhill Assault

Three men received facial injuries after a fight outside a snooker club in Redhill.

The Latvians were attacked by two men near Q’s Entertainment in Queensway 2 o’clock the morning of Saturday 5th April.

It follows an earlier verbal altercation in which both groups were asked to leave the premises.

The victims received injuries including a suspected broken jaw, a swollen cheek and a large cut above the eye.

Both suspects are described as white men between 5ft 6 and 5ft 10 inches tall, aged mid-to-late 20’s. The first had short, dark hair, skinny build with a cut on the centre of his chin.

The second suspect had blond/gingery hair, of stocky build, who spoke with a northern accent.

Oxted Cigarette Robbery

A large quantity of cigarettes has been stolen from a store in Oxted.

Three offenders broke into the Co-Op store on Station Road just before 2 o’clock Sunday morning.

It is believed they smashed a window using a paving slab.

East Surrey CID is looking for information relating to a dark-coloured Volkswagen Golf seen heading towards Gresham Road at the time of the incident.
