Flooded Homes Exempt from Council Tax for 3 Months

Flooded homes won’t have to pay council tax for three months under a new plan drawn up by Surrey County Council.

2,000 homes are covered by the scheme which will cost the county council around £750,000 and will save the flood victims around £500 on their annual bill.

It’s not certain how much money Surrey will actually get from the central government but much of this sum will be recouped from the Government’s £4 million fund to help flooded families which will be shared out across the country.

Surrey CC Road Repair Funding

Surrey County Council could be in line for extra road repair cash as a government reward for giving taxpayers value for money.

From next year, councils that prove they spend highways funding efficiently are set to get a bigger share of the country’s £200 million annual roads maintenance budget under plans recently launched by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Surrey County Council was highlighted as one of two good examples of an efficient roads authority when the DfT announced the proposals earlier this year.
