Crawley Knifeman Jailed

A successful investigation in Crawley has resulted in a man being sentenced to 11 years in prison.

41 year old Thomas Mahasoh from Solihull was sentenced on the 9th of January for attacking two people with a large kitchen knife at a birthday party.

An 18-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his stomach and a 20 year old man was stabbed in the leg after a fight broke out at the party being held near the Crawley Lawn Tennis Club on 7 July last year.

Fostering in West Sussex

West Sussex County Council is looking for more people to come forward as foster carers this new year.

Foster homes offer children and young people a stable family environment while their own parents are unable to look after them.

Foster carers come from all walks of life and anyone is welcome to apply, regardless of their marital status or sexuality.

Local Sports Review

Crystal Palace missed a penalty and paid the price by losing 2-0 at Spurs on Saturday to go bottom of the premier league on goal difference.

In league one, despite being 2 nil down after 83 minutes, Crawley Town recovered to draw 2 all at Coventry Yesterday afternoon. An own goal from Sadler late in the first half started the rot but goals late on from Proctor and Drury allowed the reds to claim a much needed away point.

In other local matches, Merstham lost 2 nil at home to Folkstone Invicta, Crawley Down Gatwick shared the points with Hythe Town, Three Bridges beat Whitstable Town by one goal to Nil, and Horley Town managed a one all draw at home to Hartley Whitney.

East Surrey Water Roadworks

Water Company Roadworks Scheduled

Sutton and East Surrey Water is undertaking a number of projects involving road works starting on Monday 13th January.

Projects are being worked on in several local areas including Brambletye Park Road in Redhill, High Street Nutfield and White Hill Bletchingley

It’s part of East Surrey Water’s on-going multi-million pound mains renewal and replacement rolling programme.

Six projects in total are being worked at the following locations:

Landscape Road             Warlingham

RSPB Garden Birdwatch

The RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch is back on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014,

Almost 600,000 people across the UK took part in the survey in 2013 and between them counted more than 9 million birds

Schools can also get involved in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch. Almost 90,000 children and teachers take part each year,
