Susy Radio – News from Ofcom

Transmission update – Susy Radio have received a response from Ofcom which informs us on two very important issues:

Regarding Final Frequency Clearance (international)

“Please be assured that we will progress things as quickly as we can within the agreed processes with international agencies.”

Regarding Our two year deadline to be on air which expires on 14th June 2012.

“We would not impose a deadline on a group under such circumstances as this hold-up is with the clearance, rather than from your end.”

This is excellent, though somewhat frustrating news as on the one hand it means further delays, but on the other that we will definitely be coming your way  sooner or later.

We’ll keep you updated here on any firm news as we get it.  Meanwhile, our studios get ever closer to completion, as the photo below shows:

New Book Keeper for Susy Radio

We are delighted to welcome the latest volunteer to join the Susy Radio team, trainee accountant Vashti Scott from South East London.

Susy's volunteer Book Keeper, Vashti Scott

Currently an administrator, 23 year old Mrs Scott is also studying on a self-funded AAT course to gain a certificate in accountancy.

Mrs Scott said, “Managing the books part-time gives me the chance to apply my new skills to a challenging accountancy role within a progressive company.”

Often the back office roles are the hardest to fill, Director Shan Robins said, “We are delighted Vashti has joined the Susy team at this stage of her career as we have been particularly seeking anyone looking to develop their skills.  In return for Vashti’s expertise we hope it’ll give her a chance to get a little further up the work ladder.”

As a not-for-profit company all positions are currently voluntary at Susy Radio. However, anyone who is reliable and dedicated and wants to get involved should check out the volunteer pages or contact office@susyradio.com via email.

Susy Photo at Surrey Photo Awards

Recently, Natalie Osborne, Chris Spring and our Chairman Neil Munday attended Guildford Cathedral for the Community Foundation for Surrey’s photographic awards.

Susy’s photo showing community involvement was taken whilst providing a roadshow in Memorial Park Redhill last November. The photo taken by Natalie Osborne shows Neil in full action entertaining the children who were joining in the dance routine. It received a commendation awarded at a presentation ceremony in Guildford Cathedral.

The overall winners were “The Freewheelers Theatre Company” who received a well deserved cheque and provided a demonstration of dance and movement to music in front of assembled guests and dignitaries.

Susy Radio allocated 103.4 FM

When Susy Radio goes on air you’ll be able to hear us on 103.4 FM.

103.4 FM, the frequency issued by Ofcom, is currently in the process of gaining international clearance. We feel pretty confident of approval so 103.4 FM will be ours for the next 5 years.

With test transmissions due to start in the spring, Programme Director Geoff Rogers commented; “The frequency allocated is a great choice and will allow us to provide excellent reception to our service area.  It’s also located roughly between two of the bigger local radio stations on the FM dial and will be very easy to find.  This is a very positive step forward”

Managed and run entirely by volunteers, Susy Radio is a not-for-profit radio station soon to be broadcasting to Redhill, Reigate, Horley, North Crawley and surrounding villages.
