Volunteer Presented With Horley Town Award

Horley Town Council has presented a Town Award to voluntary worker Jacqueline Jones for services to the community of Horley. 

Jacqueline has been involved with a range of voluntary work for many years;  she helped distribute food to those in need during the Covid pandemic, and assists with activities at both the Horley Food Bank and Horley Methodist Church.  She also volunteers at both Renewed Hope Redhill preparing meals for fundraisers and at the Horley Night Shelter.

Outstanding Ofsted Award for Reigate Priory Junior School

Reigate Priory Junior School has been rated as Outstanding in its recent Ofsted inspection; the highest rating level. 

The School was rated Outstanding in every area and has maintained its grade over the last four inspections. 

Reigate Priory has faced challenges recently after Surrey County Council’s proposals to move the school from its current home in Priory Park, met strong opposition from parents and residents.  Inspectors said “despite the challenges the school faces, leaders and governors maintain a clear focus on delivering high quality education for every pupil.”

Court hears mother-of-five was murdered by her abusive boyfriend

A Crawley mother-of-five was murdered by her abusive boyfriend whilst he was on bail, a court has heard.

32-year-old, Holly Sanchez,was found dead in a bungalow on Oates Walk, in May 2023.

Ryan Evans, from Crawley, is on trial at at Brighton Crown Court, denies Ms Sanchez’s murder.

The Court heard that at the time of her death, Mr Evans was on bail with conditions prohibiting contact with Ms Sanchez.

WSCC announce Summer reading challenge

West Sussex County Council has announced this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

This year’s theme Marvellous Makers starts from 13 July – 14 September.

With free materials from the library and online, the challenge encourages youngsters to keep reading over the holidays by offering rewards, including a medal and certificate.

All that participants need is a library card, which are available from all West Sussex libraries.
