Good News for Crawley Businesses

Independent retailers in Crawley can now apply for a grant to improve their shop fronts.

Eligible businesses in the town centre can apply for up to £5000 as part of the Shop Front and High Street improvement Programme.

To be eligible to apply for a grant, businesses must:

  • be registered with HMRC and Companies House
  • pass due diligence checks undertaken by council officers
  • have a physical shop premises in Crawley
  • be a small independent business with a maximum of 50 employees
  • not be part of a regional, national or international chain or franchise
  • have security of tenure for the premises and provide evidence to prove this
  • not propose inappropriate physical shop front improvements if the premises is located in designated conservation areas

Applications that demonstrate they will result in the delivery of environmental benefits, for example a reduction in carbon emissions, will be afforded extra weighting during the evaluation process.

A due diligence and evaluation process will be undertaken on all applications. Grants offered are subject to meeting eligibility criteria, fulfilling the aims of the scheme and a subsidy control declaration.

Community Groups Celebrate in Surrey

Community groups across Surrey have been celebrating this week.

£30,000 from the London Gatwick Foundation Fund of 2024, has been distributed across Reigate, Banstead, Tandridge and Mole Valley.

A total of 6 groups benefited from the donations generated by the fund including a theatre and a domestic abuse charity.

Each year there are three rounds of grants, which are made available to beneficiaries in Surrey, Sussex and Kent based charities.

Police appeal for information following Bewbush altercation

Police are appealing for information following an altercation in Crawley.

Officers were called to a large group of people causing a disturbance on Dorsten Square in Bewbush on 5 May around 11pm.

A man is believed to have had a knife and is believed have attempted to cause an injury to another individual.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sussex Police.

Grants available for low income Tandridge residents

Tandridge residents with low incomes will be able to apply for a small grant from the Tandridge Household Support Fund.

From 10am on the 3 June, the public will be able to apply online.

Eligible households with children will receive £375 and households without children will receive £175.

The government funding is limited, so residents should apply as soon as possible at the Tandridge District Council’s website
