Local Demand For Food Banks Increases

A charity providing food banks in East Surrey has seen an increase in referrals since the cost of living crisis. 

Loveworks has been running emergency food provision in the area since 2010 and currently has food banks in Reigate, Merstham and at Redhill Football Club.  Kate Curtis from Loveworks spoke to Susy Radio’s Clive Hilton:

Upgrade For Children’s Day Procedures Unit At East Surrey Hospital

The newly transformed Children’s Day Procedures Unit has opened at East Surrey Hospital. 

The centre has improved the environment for young patients having day surgery and elective procedures at the Hospital.  The project was made possible through a donation of £12,000 to SASH Charity’s children’s appeal, from Redhill company Skinsense. 

The unit was opened on Friday and included a tour of the new facilities and a ribbon cutting ceremony.  

Football: Crawley Town 3-0 Milton Keynes Dons

Crawley Town gained victory over Milton Keynes Dons in the first leg of their League Two play-off semi-final.

The game had been scheduled to be played on Monday but was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch

First-half goals from Liam Kelly and Jay Williams put the Red Devils in the lead. Ronan Darcy’s goal in the second half secured a 3-0 win for Crawley.

The second leg of the play-offs will be played on Saturday.

 

 

 

Airport Passport e-gates issue resolved

A “nationwide issue” which caused huge delays at passport e-gates has been resolved, the Home Office has said.

Major UK airports including Gatwick, confirmed a Border Force problem was causing delays with arrivals late on Tuesday.

Pictures and videos on social media showed long queues.

The Home Office added that “at no point was border security compromised, and there is no indication of malicious cyber activity”.

Crawley man charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder in Crawley.

Emergency services were called to Burdock Close on the 5 May at about 11.20pm to a report of a teenager having been stabbed.

A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

18 year-old, Carling Poynter, from Broadfield, has been charged with attempted murder and possesion of a knife.

A 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed, pending further enquiries.
