Football Results: Play-Offs and Relegation Updates

Crawley Town just held on to the crucial seventh place play off spot in the League 2 table despite losing 3-2 to Colchester United on Saturday.  With just three matches to go until the end of the season, the Reds host sixth place Barrow tomorrow evening.

In their final away game of the season, it was a 1-1 draw for Dorking Wanderers at Rochdale AFC. The result officially confirmed Dorking’s relegation from the National League.  Dorking host Hartlepool on Saturday in their final game of the season. 

It was good news for Three Bridges whose 2-0 win over Erith and Belvedere yesterday confirmed their fifth place play off place for promotion from the Isthmian South East Division.

Surrey Police Move Into Wray Park Site

Surrey Police commenced their move from Reigate Police Station to Wray Park last week. 

The move follows the discovery last September of RAAC or reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete within the Police Station. The public facing front counter was relocated to Caterham Police Station several months ago. 

An interim base for operational activity was identified at St David’s House, a vacant building at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service’s Wray Park site, whilst the Force considers longer term plans.

Redhill to Tonbridge Railway Line Reopens

The railway line between Redhill and Tonbridge has reopened after emergency landslip repairs were completed at Bough Beech near Edenbridge.

Over the last two weeks, engineers strengthened the railway embankment over a 100 metre section by underpinning the railway, after the embankment became saturated and weakened following the recent heavy rainfall.  The railway had to be closed in its entirety, with buses replacing trains during the work.  As well as Redhill, affected stations include Godstone and Nutfield.

Network Rail is using remote condition monitoring at key sites to help monitor ground movement, and will continue to do so at Bough Beech.

Number of prosecuting of shoplifting offences falls

The number of shoplifting offences leading to a prosecution has fallen in parts of the South East over the last five years, despite a rise in recorded crimes.

Provisional Crown Prosecution Service numbers show offences leading to a court appearance fell in Surrey and Sussex between 2019 and 2023.

The number of offences leading to a first court appearance in Surrey fell by 70% and dropped by 2%, in Sussex.

Meanwhile data from the Office for National Statistics showed that shoplifting offences increased by a third.
