Junior Cricket at Merstham Cricket Club

With Spring on the way, Merstham Cricket Club is welcoming enquiries from girls of primary school age who want to learn to play the sport.

Training will take place on Friday evenings from late April, between 6-7pm.

Girls of this age-group can join the club for an annual fee of £20, which will also cover social membership for their parents.

In addition to the chance to learn the game, the club will be managing the team for the Surrey Youth Games, on behalf of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, later in the season.

Football Roundup

Crawley Town slipped into the bottom four of league one on goal difference following their 2 -1 home defeat on Saturday to Gillingham.

In the Ryman league, it was a goalless away draw for Redhill at Herne Bay, and a 1 all home draw for Merstham against Walton and Hersham.

The local derby ended in a convincing 4 – 0 win for Three Bridges in their home match against South Park.

And it was a poor afternoon for East Grinstead Town who went down 3 -1 at Folkestone Invicta.

Crawley Loan Signing

Crawley Town yesterday (Thursday) announced that they have signed former Charlton defender Kelly Youga on a short-term contract.

The 29-year-old is a free agent having spent last year playing in China.

Reds Manager Dean Saunders said that Youga was able to cover left-back if anything were to happen to Ryan Dickson or Sonny Bradley.

Providing his international clearance arrives in time, he’ll be available for selection for tomorrow’s home game against Gillingham.

Football Update

Crawley moved out of the League One relegation places after beating fellow strugglers Leyton Orient. Reds captain Izale McLeod converted a first-half penalty after he was brought down in the area by Luke O’Neill.

Crawley’s win, coupled with defeats for Crewe and Notts County, move them a point clear of the drop zone.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, East Grinstead Town suffered a 2 nil home defeat at the hands of Walton Casuals while Redhill drew 1 all in their home encounter with Sittingbourne.

Three Bridges also managed a 1 all away draw at Whitstable Town while South Park beat Ramsgate by 2 goals to 1.

Football Roundup

Football, and Izale McCloud’s 75th-minute penalty earned a vital three points for Crawley Town against League One relegation rivals Colchester United.

The match ended 3 – 2 to The Reds but other results mean that they remain 3 points from safety.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman league, Merstham enjoyed a convincing 4 nil victory at home to Hythe Town, while Three Bridges also won 4 – 2 in their match against Walton & Hersham. South Park also had a good afternoon with a 3 nil away win at Chipstead. Not so good for East Grinstead Town who lost 2 – 1 at Sittingbourne and Redhill who narrowly lost 2 – 1 at Walton Casuals.
