In league one, despite a bright start, Crawley Town slumped to a 2 -1 home defeat against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon. The Reds are now 2 points from safety without a win in their last 3 matches.
Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, Redhill drew 2 all in their home match with Carshalton Athletic. South Park and Merstham drew 1 all while East Grinstead Town went down 1 nil at home to Herne Bay and Three Bridges lost 3 – 1 at Whyteleafe.

Sussex batsman Rory Hamilton-Brown has announced his retirement at 27 after failing to recover from a wrist injury.

He picked up the injury at the beginning of last season and his last appearance was a Twenty20 match against Middlesex on 27 June.

Despite surgery and rehabilitation he has been forced to call time on his 10-year professional career.

And in Saturday’s football, Crawley Town just failed to take all 3 points as a late penalty from substitute Marc McNulty rescued a point for League One Sheffield United.The Reds have are now second from bottom.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League, Merstham lost by a single goal at home to East Grinstead Town and Three Bridges went down 4 – 3 to Hythe Town.

Better news for Redhill who managed a 2 all away draw at Tooting and Mitcham United. The match between South Park and Sittingbourne was postponed.

Izale McLeod grabbed a hat-trick as Crawley Town responded to the midweek drubbing against Doncaster by thrashing managerless Barnsley by 5 goals to 1 at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon

The win sees The Reds move to within two points of League One safety and just five points behind Barnsley.

In the Ryman League, Redhill succumbed 5 nil at Walton and Hersham, while Merstham lost 4 -3 at home to Burgess Hill Town. The sorry story for our local sides continued with East Grinstead Town losing 3 nil at Favesham Town.

The matches between South Park and Worthing and Three Bridges and Corinthian Casuals were postponed.

Crawley Town moved off the bottom of League despite another loss at Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking the lead in the first half through an Izale McLeod goal, the Reds succumbed 2 -1 and remain on 27 points – 4 from safety.

And there were no wins for our local sides in the Ryman League. Redhill lost 1 – 0 at home to Whyteleafe, while South Park lost 2 – 0 at Hythe. Merstham and Herne Bay shared the points in a goalless match, East Grinstead and Ramsgate scored one apiece while Three Bridges managed 2 away goals to draw with Hastings United.
