Football Update

Crawley Town striker Matt Harrold played in goal for over 50 minutes and won man of the match as The Reds conceded a last-minute equaliser to draw 2 all with MK Dons on Saturday Afternoon.

With no recognised keeper on the bench, Harrold came on for regular Brian Jensen after the Dane dislocated a finger.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, Redhill lost 2-1 at Worthing and Three Bridges lost 3-0 at Faversham Town. And better news for Merstham who enjoyed a good away 2-0 win at Walton Casuals and East Grinstead Town who won 2-1 at Hastings United.

Bins and Football

Two ‘firsts’ took place at Salfords Based Monotype FC between Christmas and New Year.

The under-9s played their first match and sponsors Netkandi Limited provided a community football first by rolling out branded wheelie bins in club colours for the match on December 28.

Manager Mark Lodge’s new junior team contested four quarters of 10 minutes each on a cold, frosty morning and despite pushing hard lost 4-0 to South Park

And in last weekend’s Football, Crawley’s League one match at Chesterfield on Saturday was postponed, as were many matches in the Ryman League. The only local match to take place ended in a 3-1 away defeat for Redhill at Whitstable Town.

Crawley Town were left without a win in 11 league games and dropped to within two points of the League One relegation zone after a 2 -1 home defeat by Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.

In the Ryman League, East Grinstead Town pulled off a fine 4 – 1 victory over Corinthian Casuals, while Merstham won 3 – 2 at Ramsgate.

Elsewhere, it was another good win for South Park who defeated Whitstable Town by 2 goals to one, but a crushing defeat for Redhill who lost 5 – 0 at Three Bridges.

Weekend Sports

Luke Ayling struck a late winner to defeat Crawley Town and keep Bristol City at the top of the League One table on Saturday.

The defender beat Reds goalkeeper Lewis Price from a tight angle with just three minutes of normal time remaining.
Price had kept Crawley in the game earlier with brilliant saves to deny Kieran Agard and Joe Bryan.

In the Ryman league, Redhill’s home match against Ramsgate was called off after a pitch inspection. Merstham managed a 1 all home draw with Faversham Town and East Grinstead had a good 2 – 1 away win at Hythe Town. Three Bridges were thrashed 6 – 2 at home to Worthing but South Park picked up all the points with a 3 – 1 away victory at Whyteleafe.

Weekend Football

Gavin Tomlin scored his first goal in 17 games to help Crawley draw against Chesterfield in a game which ended in a 21-man brawl and two red cards.

But The Reds’ Izale McLeod and Chesterfield’s Daniel Jones were then both sent off in the injury-time incident.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League, Merstham won 3-2 at Three Bridges, while the match between South Park and Walton Casuals was postponed after a pitch inspection.
