Crawley Town Loan Signing

Crawley Town yesterday confirmed that they had signed striker Shaun Miller from Coventry City on a one month loan.

He’ll be available to play until after the home game with Colchester United on December the 28th.

Shaun has scored twice in 12 games for Coventry, and Reds Manager John Gregory said he has a good eye for goal and would give Crawley a boost just at the right time.

Miller is due to take to the field tomorrow in the match against Chesterfield.

Weekend Football

In Saturday’s football, Crawley Town came back from 2 – 0 down to draw with League One strugglers Scunthorpe.

The Reds pulled a goal back through Dean Leacock’s header and Izale McLeod levelled from the spot after Jennison Myrie-Williams fouled Dickson.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League, Redhill beat East Grinstead Town 3 – 2  away while Three Bridges won 2 – 1 at Folkestone Invicta.

Merstham completed a hat trick of victories for our local teams with a 3 – 2 win at home to Tooting and Mitcham United.

Weekend Sports Roundup

Crawley Town ended a week in which five players were placed on the transfer list by fighting back to earn a 1 all draw at Oldham Athletic in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Gwion Edwards nullified a seventh minute Oldham goal with a fine 25-yard drive for the Reds just before the break.

Redhill’s local Ryman League match with South Park was postponed, while Three Bridges were beaten 3 – 2 at Carshalton Athletic and East Grinstead managed a nil nil draw at home to Whitstable Tonw.

Elsewhere, in the FA Trophy second qualifying round, Merstham were beaten 4 – 2 at AFC Hornchurch.

Cycle Race Benefits Area

The Tour of Britain cycle race through Sussex and Surrey boosted the local economy by £3m, the organisers claim.

Many thousands of people turned out to see some of the world’s greatest cyclists make their way from Camberley to Brighton in September.

Organisers said spectators spent on average of about £50, adding £3m to Sussex and Surrey’s economy overall.

The cycle race started in Liverpool and finished in London a week later.

Weekend Football Update

Crawley Town failed to make it to the second round of the FA Cup following a 1-0  away defeat at Yeovil Town.

In other local matches in the Ryman League, Redhill lost 2 – 1 at Chipstead while Three Bridges managed a goalless draw at home to Sittingbourne.

Better news for East Grinstead who earned a narrow 1 nil victory at Tooting and Mitcham.

Merstham beat Carshalton Athletic 2 – 0 at home taking them to fourth in the table.

And the best result of the day was undoubtedly South Park’s 4 – 1 drubbing of Corinthian Casuals.
