Co-Chairman takes over running of Crawley Town FC

Crawley Town FC’s co-chairman, Preston Johnson, has taken over the day-to-day running of the club after the resignation of the Acting CEO and Director of Football.

Chris Galley left at the beginning of this month with Johnson thanking him for his efforts in a club statement.

The Reds are currently one position above the relegation zone in league two and are hoping they can build on their recent set of wins.

Local Football Update

Crawley Town picked up a massive three points on Saturday in their fight for League Two survival, with a win at Hartlepool United.  Crawley won 2-0 with both goals coming from Dom Telford.  Scott Lindsey’s side are now only one point from survival with two matches left this season.

Dorking Wanderers drew 2-2 away to Wealdstone.  Dorking’s place in the National League is already secured for next season; they are currently in 16th place. Their final league game of the season takes place on Saturday against already relegated Scunthorpe.

Our other local teams in the Susy Radio area have finished in safe positions with no promotions or relegations with one exception; Merstham FC still await their fate in the Isthmian South Central Division.  The Moatsiders drew 2-2 at home to Westfield but despite finishing the season one place above the relegation zone, results from other matches mean they are in the relegation play-offs. The inter-step playoff to determine Merstham’s fate will take place at home next weekend.

Football Update

In League 2 Crawley Town won 2-1 at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.  It was a crucial win for the Reds and enough to lift them to 22nd place, one place above the relegation zone with four matches to go until the end of the season.

Dorking Wanderers won 3-2 over Altrincham having been two goals behind within the first eight minutes.  Five wins in six games sees Dorking remain six points clear of the drop zone in the National League, with three games left to play.

At kick off on Saturday, Merstham FC occupied the second automatic relegation position in the Isthmian South Central Division table, but their vital 1-0 away win over Chertsey Town saw them climb out of the bottom four.  Merstham have just one match left this season when they host Westfield on Saturday.

Crawley Town FC manager still confident

As Crawley Town FC drop into the League Two relegation zone, manager Scott Lindsey says he is confident in the upcoming games.

The Reds took a heavy 4-0 defeat at Barrow on Monday, with Lindsey saying the amount of injuries made the team selection difficult.

But the manager says they are still in with a chance of staying up
citing their form at home as being a positive factor.

The Reds’ next two games against Tranmere Rovers and the Colchester United are both at Broadfield Stadium.

Marbles Championships

The UK and World Marbles Championships took place at Tinsley Green, near Crawley, on Good Friday.

The annual tournament dates back to 1588 during the reign of Elizabeth I, when marbles were chosen as the deciding game between two male suitors, over the hand of a Tinsley Green milk maiden named Joan.

Over the years, players from as far as Australia, Japan and the United States have participated alongside English teams.
