Local Football Update

Crawley Town lost their first League 2 home match of the season 1-0 to Leyton Orient on Saturday.

After 12 promotions in 20 seasons, Dorking Wanderers made their National League debut at the weekend.  Wanderers rescued a draw after being two down at half time.  The second half goals were scored by James McShane and Luke Moore.

Many of our local teams played FA Cup Extra Preliminary rounds prior to their first league games of the season which start next week.  Three Bridges, and East Grinstead Town are through to the next round of the FA Cup; South Park Reigate and Horley Town are out.  Redhill’s away match with Southall ended in a goalless draw.  The replay will take place at Kiln Brow tomorrow night.

The defender signed his first professional contract for Arsenal last August after delivering a number of promising performances throughout 2020/21, making 14 appearances for the under-18s and featuring twice for the under-23s.

Ogungbo, 19, was then a key part of Kevin Betsy’s U23s successes last season and the defender will now reunite with his old gaffer in West Sussex.

He has gone on to play 23 times in the Premier League 2, and is a versatile player across the backline.

Mazeed is of dual nationality between Ireland and Nigeria and has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

Manager Kevin Betsy said: “We have managed to secure a really talented young player in Mazeed, an amazing character. A very good defender who is quick and has the ability to play in three positions. He is a great addition to the squad and will add competition for places in the back line.”
