Surrey CC without Kieron Pollard for rest of T20

Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard will miss the rest of the T20 Blast for Surrey after having surgery on an injured knee.

The 35-year-old all-rounder has taken one wicket and scored 99 runs in the Blast for unbeaten South Group leaders Surrey this term.

Pollard underwent surgery on his left knee on Tuesday morning after injuring it earlier this summer.
The club say he will be out for “four to six weeks” for rehabilitation.

Surrey are top of the south division, having won eight of their nine matches, with their other game against Glamorgan, in Cardiff, rained off.

They have a lead of three points over second-placed Somerset, with five matches remaining.

“This is hugely frustrating as we have been a dominant force and I felt I was part of something special,” said Pollard, who had signed to play to the end of the T20 Blast campaign.
“But I wish the lads all the best for the rest of the campaign whilst I get myself fit and firing again.”

In total, Pollard, who retired from the international game earlier this year, won 224 caps in white-ball cricket, scoring 4,275 runs and taking 97 wickets.

New signings at Crawley Town FC

Crawley Town Football Club have announced Ashley Nadesan has signed a new two year deal to remain with the club.

The forward becomes Kevin Betsy’s second signing of the summer transfer window.

Nadesan joined the Reds in July 2019 and has made 118 appearances scoring 24 goals.

Speaking on the new deal, Ashley said: “I’m delighted to have signed a new two-year deal with the club, with the blessing of the new manager and the new owners. I have enjoyed every minute of the three years that I’ve been here and I feel like I have a lot of unfinished business. I want to score as many goals as I can this season and I feel that promotion is definitely the target for us.”

On Monday Travis Johnson signed a two-year deal upon the expiration of his contract at Crewe Alexandra. The highly-rated defender became Kevin Betsy’s first signing and is the first new player to join the ranks for the 2022/23 season.
Travis progressed through the youth ranks with Crewe and earned his first professional contract in the summer of 2018. Since then, Johnson has made over 40 appearances for The Railwaymen, including 20 in Sky Bet League One last season.

Speaking on the signing, Manager Kevin Betsy said: “Travis is a very promising acquisition for us, who has played over 20 games in League One last season. He is versatile positionally and is an outstanding 1v1 defender. He has developed well at Crewe and is a well-rounded young man. We had to fight off interest from clubs in a higher division and our own, but we managed to convince him and his representatives that what we will be doing next season would make this the place for him to develop and fulfil his undoubted potential. We are all delighted and would like to place on record our thanks to his representatives and our owners for helping us make this happen.”

Speaking on his move to the Reds, Johnson said: “I am buzzing to get the deal over the line. Ever since I heard about the interest, I have not been able to stop thinking about it. I spoke to the manager and saw the ambition that he has for the club and what he is trying to put in place. The general feel of all the staff members that I have met is good, and everyone seems to be working in sync and looking to achieve the same thing.”

Travis will officially link up with the club on July 1st upon the expiration of his contract at Crewe Alexandra.
