Football Update: End of Season Results

Local teams saw the last league games of the season on Saturday.

Crawley Town’s Assistant Manager, Lewis Young, took charge following Manager John Yems’ departure from the Club on Friday after allegations of racism and discriminatory conduct.  Crawley Town drew 3-3 away to Oldham Athletic and matched last season’s tally of 61 points, ending the season in the middle of the League 2 table in 12th place.

Despite winning 2-0 away to Harrogate, Sutton United just miss out on the play off positions for promotion.  Sutton end their first season in League 2 in 8th place.

Dorking Wanderers end the season in second place in the National League South table following their one all draw away to Hungerford Town.  This means Dorking qualifies for Saturday’s semi final play offs for promotion to the Vanarama National League.  They’ll play the winner of the eliminator A match on Wednesday evening between Oxford City and Eastbourne Borough.

FA investigate John Yems allegations

The Football Association is investigating allegations of discriminatory words and conduct by Crawley Town manager John Yems towards the club’s players.

The 62-year-old was suspended indefinitely last month.

A spokesperson for the FA has said that the allegations were being taken seriously but could not comment further until the investigation has concluded.

Merstham FC Manager Departs

Merstham Football Club has confirmed the departure of its management team.

Frank Wilson and Barry Hayles have left by mutual agreement.  This comes as the Moatsiders were relegated after ending the season last week at the bottom of the Isthmian Premier Division table.  The Club has thanked both Frank and Barry for their hard work and wishes them well for the future.

Merstham FC are currently taking applications for the position of First Team Manager which must be received by Friday’s closing date.

Football: Crawley Town 0-3 Sutton United

Crawley lost 3-0 in their game against Sutton United, boosting their play-off hopes.

Sutton raced ahead scoring 2 goals in the first seven minutes.

It was a  positive start in the second half for Crawley, but the team failed to score. Sutton’s Ajiboye scored 5 minutes before the end of play.

Crawley places 12th in the table.

End of Football Season Update: Merstham FC Relegated

Crawley Town lost 2-0 away to Mansfield Town on Saturday.  With just three games left to play this season, the Reds meet Sutton United tomorrow at Gander Green Lane.

It was the last game of the season for many of our local teams, which didn’t end well for Merstham FC.  Merstham had to win at home to Carshalton Athletic to stand a chance of staying in the Isthmian Premier Division next season.  It wasn’t to be for the Moatsiders however, who lost 2-1 and will be relegated after ending the season at the bottom of the table.

It was better news for Horsham who won 3-2 away to East Thurrock United and finish in the middle of the table.

Elsewhere despite losing their last matches on Saturday, both Redhill and Horley finish the season in 6th and 7th place respectively in the Combined Counties Premier Division.
