Football Preview

Some of our local football teams are in action tonight. 

In League 2, Crawley Town travel to Stevenage.  Sutton United host Colchester United at Gander Green Lane.

Most of the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup Quarter Final matches take place later.  Horsham face Saltdean United, and Horsham YMCA meet Three Bridges for a place in the Semi Finals.  

Football Update

Crawley Town gained a point in their 1-1 draw against Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday.  The Reds remain in 11th place in the League 2 table.  Sutton United are in 5th place following their 3 -3 draw away to Stevenage.  

In the Isthmian League, Merstham lost 3-0 to Lewes at The Dripping Pan.  Horsham drew 2-2 away to Bognor Regis.

East Grinstead made it three wins in a row with a 1-0 win at home to Faversham. Three Bridges lost 1-0 away to Chichester City.  South Park lost 3-1 away to Thatcham Town.

Elsewhere, Redhill lost 3-1 away to Beckenham Town and Horley lost 4-1 against Badshot Lea at the New Defence.

Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards 2022

Nominations have opened for this year’s Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards. 

Residents can nominate inspirational individuals, teams, volunteers and coaches from across the borough.  Eleven categories cover a broad range of individual and group awards that recognise outstanding contributions made during the past year.  Nominations should be made before the 23rd January deadline using the form on the following link:  Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards 2022: Nomination form

A special awards evening is planned for 21st February at The Harlequin Theatre; last year’s ceremony was held online. 

Football Update

Crawley Town move up to 11th place in the League 2 table following their 1-0 win on Saturday over 3rd placed Northampton. The goal from Tom Nichols gave the Reds the lead just before half-time.

Crawley Town Manager, John Yems, spoke to BBC Radio Surrey after the match. 

In the National League South, Dorking Wanderers won 2-1 against Braintree Town at Meadowbank.

Three Bridges lost their Isthmian League match 4-3 at home to VCD Athletic.

All other local matches on Saturday were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
