Sport: John Yems two years in charge

On the 5th December 2019, Manager John Yems and Assistant Manager Lee Bradbury joined the club initially until the end of the 2019/20 season. The pair had their contracts extended almost immediately in January 2020, having won 3, drawn 6 and lost only 2 of their first 11 games in charge.

Yems and Bradbury had their side sitting 13th in Sky Bet League Two before the season was curtailed owing to the COVID 19 pandemic in March 2020.

During their first full season in charge of the Red Devils, Yems and Bradbury guided the club to their highest league finish since the club was relegated from League One in the 2014/15 season.

In the same season, Crawley reached the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup, and in the process, defeated Premier League Leeds United 3-0 at The People’s Pension Stadium. A fixture that will comfortably go down as the best result in the club’s history.

The pair have also been instrumental with Crawley’s transfer business since they arrived in 2019. The majority of the current squad have been brought in by Yems and Bradbury over their two years of leadership. The most notable transfer going by the name of Max Watters. Having picked the youngster up on a free transfer at the start of the 2020/21 season, the striking sensation earned a move to Championship side Cardiff in the January of 2021 for an undisclosed fee.

Yems is currently in his second spell with Crawley. Alongside Ben Judge and Dave Woozley, he led the Reds to Conference safety on the last day of the 2006-07 season. Having started the campaign with a ten-point deduction.
