The Macmillan Cancer Support Centre based at East Surrey Hospital has celebrated its third anniversary.

The centre was developed through a partnership between Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust who run East Surrey Hospital, and charity Macmillan Cancer Support. It was designed by experts and people affected by cancer to offer holistic care in a friendly, informal environment.  More than 5,000 patients, their family and friends have visited the centre during the last three years.

To celebrate the anniversary, the centre held a tea party for guests including service users, donors, staff and volunteers.

Marty Love – A tale of two bands

HEAR EXCLUSIVE PLAY OF “JOHNNY MOPED’S” AS YET UNRELEASED NEW SINGLE, AND A TRACK FROM “THE WEIRD THINGS” SOON TO BE RELEASED NEW ALBUM

It’s always a pleasure to have Marty at Susy for a chat, not only does he bring great tracks with him hot of the press, he also updates on the latest live scene locally – notably on the fairly punk/alt rock side of things.

This time he tells me all about his tour playing Drums for ‘Johnny Moped’ as they supported the ever incredible ‘Damned’, I was lucky enough to catch both bands at the Dome. Brighton just before Christmas, amazing!

This tour was indeed a nod to the past as turn back the clock to January 1978, ‘The Damned’ and ‘Johnny Moped’ were at the Greyhound, Croydon, and Dave Berk drummed for both bands, much like our Marty from good old Caterham, Surrey.

‘Johnny Moped’ return to their roots in Croydon, George Street, February 23rd with Local Band, ‘Emnibis’, one of the supporting bands along with fledgling artists ‘The Mistakes’ and ‘Stew Bush’.

‘The Weird Things’ are gaining an enviable reputation, and are playing the coveted ‘Rebellion’ this year as well as a string of top venues, they warm up 1st and 2nd Feb in Croydon at the ‘Front Room’. 2nd March you can catch them at the ‘Star’ in Guildford with ‘Vice Squad’. ‘Johnny Moped’ and ‘The Weird Things’ both record in Reigate at Panther Studios run by Dick Crippen, who has been uber busy as he plays guitar in ‘The Weird Things’ and has just added baby Charlie to his family!

BBC’s “Give A Gift” sale raises record sum!

The fourth BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey 2019 Give A Gift sale has raised more money than ever before. The event, which took place on Saturday morning at St Pauls Arts Centre in Worthing, raised £2,379 for BBC Children In Need. Presenters Danny Pike and Mark Carter broadcast their shows live from the sale room.

Since Christmas, listeners have been donating their new, unwanted Christmas gifts at various drop-off points around the area, including community stations Uckfield FM and Susy Radio, who also lent their support. All the items were then sold at the special sale. For the first time this year, several large companies in the area also set up collection points, including Legal and General in Hove and Virgin Atlantic in Crawley.

Mark Carter, Assistant Managing Editor said:
‘This is a fantastic result for a two hour sale on a cold January morning. It’s also a real credit to the loyal BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey listeners who donated items or came along to the sale.’

BBC’s Mark Carter talked with SUSY’s Neil Munday on the morning of the sale:
