Godstone Toilets To Be Refurbished

Photos credit: Tracey Franklin

The public toilets on Godstone Green will be refurbished in the next few months.  They have been closed for some time due to persistent issues with legionella bacteria.

Tandridge District Council will appoint a contractor to strip out the old toilets and install a completely new facility.  The exterior of the building, which is in the Godstone Conservation Area, will be kept the same while the brand new toilets are installed inside.

The upgrade of the Godstone facilities marks the beginning of a programme of refurbishment across the district with public toilets in Warlingham and Oxted following next.

The work in Godstone is due to start in mid April and is expected to take around four weeks to complete.

A successful food rescue scheme in West Sussex is set to continue.  Following additional funding from the county council, the project will continue for another 12 months until April 2025.

The Community Food Hubs are run in partnership with Sussex-based food rescue charity, UK Harvest. For a small voluntary donation, residents can pick up a selection of surplus foods which would otherwise end up as waste.

Over the last 10 months the Food Hubs in West Sussex have prevented over 37 tonnes of food going to waste and provided food to over 11,000 people.

The hubs take place once a month in each of the seven boroughs across West Sussex including at the Broadfield Community Centre in Crawley.

The Queens Square fountains will be switched back on in three weeks time as part of a Spring Fun event in Crawley town centre.

The fountains were first turned on in 2017 when the Square was redeveloped, but were turned off at the start of the pandemic and have remained out of action due to various issues with the equipment.

The fountains have now been repaired and will be formally switched back on on Saturday 16th March at 1 pm by the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Jilly Hart.  The Spring Fun event will run from 11.30 until 4 pm on the 16th, and will include music and family entertainment.
