Interview: CHERYL BAKER – formerly of Bucks Fizz

Early in 1981, four complete strangers sat in the drawing room of a house in Fulham and were told: “you are now Bucks Fizz”.

With over 20 singles released over the next few years including 3 number ones, “My Camera Never Lies”, “Land Of Make Believe” and of course, “Making Your Mind Up”, they sold in excess of 15 million records, spending 219 weeks in the UK charts alone, appearing on “A Song for Europe” on 11th March 1981, and winning the “Song For Europe” and “Eurovision Song Contest 1981” !

Over the years, each member of Bucks Fizz went their own way but in 2008, Cheryl, Mike and Jay were reunited for a television show, “Pop Goes The Band” and they can now be seen at festivals, eighties weekends, private functions etc, regularly throughout the UK and beyond.

2015 will be their busiest for years with countless retro festivals in the diary, plus the 40-date “Paradise Regained” tour of the UK and Europe, followed by Australia.

Cheryl, Mike and Jay, Formerly of BUCKS FIZZ are to appear at the Chequer Mead Theatre, East Grinstead on Saturday, 29th November.

A Crawley Christmas – 2014

Saturday 22nd November saw Crawley switch on its Christmas Lights with a huge all afternoon festival of food, music and dance. The Boulevard Was the location which was closed to traffic for the day as a huge stage, sound system, lighting on stage and on the council offices roof top plus fireworks and the Susy Radio outside broadcast unit were positioned!

The Susy Radio team comprised of Charlie Q, Steve Lee and Neil Munday who engineered and oversaw production on site with Michael Williams as main studio technical operator.

Geoff Rogers, Programme Director of Susy Radio, had given Neil a clean slate to work from with no adverts and omitting the 6pm news to cover the switch on ceremony by local panto celebrities and catch phrase / Britain’s got talent presenter, Stephen Mulhern.

Production consisted of live and pre recorded material throughout the day with families, young people and bands making the final live broadcast from 5pm which included exclusive interview with Stephen Mulhern and live sound direct from the main stage!

Susy Radio would like to thank Crawley Borough Council and Tony Whitton of “Main Stage” for including us in the celebrations but most of all the people of Crawley who packed in their thousands into the Boulevard for the big moment!

The broadcast was just under 1¼ hours and is here in full to listen again with a selection of pictures taken by Neil and posted to the Susy Radio Facebook page on the day.
