Run Reigate Half Marathon 2014

The Neil Munday Breky Show with guests came live from Reigate`s Priory Park for the inaugural Run Reigate Half Marathon 2014.

The broadcasting team consisted of Neil Munday anchoring in our outside broadcast unit known as the “Goldfish Bowl” and looking after the engineering on the ground. Out on the event site in various locations with radio microphones and talkback were Susy Radio presenters Mark Tickner, Dave King and David Jay. Production support at the Goldfish Bowl was by Susy Presenters Bill Hanan, Henry Mack with guest Kiren Sonatun looking at how Susy worked within the community! In the Susy Studio in Merstham was Susy Engineer Jude Reynolds who monitored the broadcast.

Due to the extremely early start of 0530 for getting the site ready, the Susy engineers set up the outside broadcast on the Saturday afternoon and Neil opted to live in the park acting as equipment security overnight alongside the site security which was brilliant. There was camping camaraderie between various stall holders who set up and opted to stay the night leading to a state of early readiness as the first athletes arrived around 0730. Bacon Butties on the go and served by top Reigate celebrity chef Tony Tobin to the hundreds of volunteers from a BBQ at 0700 was amazing.

The broadcast from the park went very well with many people just willing to speak and conveying the atmosphere of the inaugural half marathon. Interviews with many runners and supporters live and pre-recorded interviews added to bring the whole context together for the 3 hours of the broadcast. Interviews included the mayor of Reigate and Banstead and Miss United Kingdom who flew in by helicopter to run the half marathon. Mark Tickner also interviewed the Race Director and Co-Director of Run Reigate David Kelly who was astounded by the turnout.

The broadcast was followed by competitions at the Susy Roadshow with Mums and Dads, winning prizes for the younger members of the family.

However after we went off air at 11am we learnt of the passing of a young athlete taking part in the half marathon. The news devastated us and the race organisers. The Susy team would like to add our condolences to the family and friends of the young athlete.

Here is a montage of highlights from the 3 hour broadcast.

Lord Nelson’s London Arrival

Susy Radio’s Natalie Osborne and Chris Spring returned from an epic sea voyage on Friday. It was the second voyage in a year for Natalie who had been on the crew of the Lord Nelson on her sail from New Zealand to Argentina via Cape Horn. Natalie and Chris joined the ship on her final leg home from Canada to London.

The original plan was to sail via Iceland, but volcanic activity forced a diversion via the Azores. The change in route meant that the ship arrived early.

Natalie told Susy News about the Lord Nelson’s voyage and her feelings as she sailed up the Thames:

Mayor Attends Synergy Sports Academy

East Grinstead’s Mayor,  Councillor Nick Hodge and East Grinstead and District Lions President Brian Richens attended Synergy Sports Academy’s training session last Saturday (13th September)

Mr Richens presented Zara Munday, National Bronze medalist (15 – 16 years) a cheque for £250 to go towards much needed new club equipment. And yes this is our own Neil Munday’s talented daughter.

The Mayor was then challenged by club members to “have a go” on the trampoline. The challenge was accepted and the Mayor along with his daughter had a go followed by the Lions president.

All successfully completed some basic moves to a huge round of applause!

Synergy Sports Academy is a competitive trampoline & double mini trampolining club, that train at Kings Leisure Centre, East Grinstead.

Chrissy M’s song – Roll The Dice

***NEWS UPDATE – 17th November 2014***
I am currently working on a four track EP under the name,
“Chrissy M”

Earlier this year, SUSY Presenter, Chrissy M suddenly had a “flash of inspiration” as a song came into her head, and she set about thinking of recording it. Over the next few weeks, she kept her listeners up to date with the progress of her song, and with the valuable help of some friends, particularly at Panther Studios in Reigate, she set about getting it professionally mixed and produced.

She recently visited Panther Studios for the last time for a final “mixdown” of her song, and the published track can now be heard here.

Further to Chrissy’s studio singing exploits, she has been asked to join local band Madfish as backing vocalist and Bassist….a chance she has jumped at :o)

The video for ‘Looking For Another Girl’, filmed at Merstham Village Club, will be out in a couple of months.
Also a NEW single ‘Stay With Me This Christmas Time’ will be released in November of this year.
