Horley Library’s Super Access Launch

The Super Access service was launched at Horley Library last Wednesday.  Visitors toured the library and tested the new service for themselves which allows them to use the library during extended unstaffed opening times.  Surrey County Council have published an introductory video with more information:

CCTV is in operation at Horley Library and security is in place when Super Access closes at 8 pm each evening.

Super Access libraries will be rolled out to other locations including Redhill, Oxted and Dorking, by the end of the year.

Dorking Man With Pacemaker Completes Atlantic Solo Row

A Dorking man with a pacemaker has completed a solo row across the Atlantic. 

Elliot Awin set off on the 3,000 mile World’s Toughest Row challenge from the Canary Islands on 13th December, and arrived at Antigua and Barbuda after 44 days at sea.

Mr Awin was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in 2015 and had the pacemaker fitted 5 years later.  He is the first person with a pacemaker to attempt the challenge. 

Mr Awin has raised more than £150,000 for the British Heart Foundation.  He has also set up his own charity called Wave Wrangler to support those living with arrhythmia. 

Banning Order Issued to Three Football Supporters from Crawley

Three football supporters have been issued with banning orders for incidents of disorder at matches last year involving Crawley Town FC. 

Following investigations by Sussex Police’s Football Unit, Liam Green, Benjamin Lanceley and Yai Prentice were convicted and issued with Football Banning Orders that last for three years.  This prohibits the individuals from attending a football fixture, or the celebrations in the local area prior or post match. 

Green was involved in a disorder during a match between Crawley Town and Sutton United.  Lanceley and Prentice were involved in an incident in Cleveland during a fixture between Crawley Town and Hartlepool.  All three are residents of Crawley.
