Crawley Knifepoint Robbery

A man has been jailed following a knife-point robbery at a shop in Crawley.

Craig Baker entered the Co-Op in Ifield Drive armed with a 10-inch kitchen knife and demanded a member of staff to hand over cash.

The staff member refused and was able to activate the security alarm.

In a police interview Baker confessed, saying, “I didn’t mean to do anything naughty… You guys have done the right thing getting me off the streets”.

He was remanded in custody and sentenced to a total of 32 months’ imprisonment.

Consultation For Surrey Hills AONB Extension

Natural England wants to hear the views of local residents about a proposal to extend the Surrey Hills boundary.

A 14 week public consultation opened last week and closes in June.

The current Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty stretches across Surrey, from Farnham in the west, to Oxted in the East. Natural England is proposing to increase the size of the area by 25%.

A copy of the plan is available to see at the Council Offices in Oxted.  Residents can also view and comment on the proposed plans on the DEFRA website:   consult.defra.gov.uk/ne-landscape-heritage-and-geodiversity-team/surrey-hills-boundary-variation/consultation/subpage.2023-01-17.9492262548/

Responses will help to inform Natural England’s decision on whether to take forward the proposals, and where the boundaries should be.
