A deer brings M23 motorists near Gatwick to a standstill

As the traffic was flowing around Surrey and Sussex, for some drivers on the M23 yesterday morning, they were almost at a standstill.

Three different incidents brought things to a near halt on the southbound carriageway as a vehicle fire near to Gatwick Airport, was surpassed by a live deer seen roaming on the motorway.

One lane out of the four was reopened after the deer was caught and removed, but then a broken-down vehicle in the middle of the carriageway caused the remaining three lanes to stay closed.

This then led to an increase of tailbacks as vehicles could only pass in single file.
Altogether, the three incidents resulted in delays of around 90 minutes. The motorway was then reopened up again around 10am.

A popular café based at Redhill Aerodrome has been given notice to leave its premises.

The Pilot’s Hub restaurant will have to leave its site at the Aerodrome on the expiry of its lease next year.  The Hangar 9 pilot community who store their aircraft in the hangar will have a separate lease from the premises currently occupied by the Pilot’s Hub.  A petition has been set up and has almost 4,000 signatures.

Richard Blane who runs the Pilot’s Hub told BBC Radio Surrey that the restaurant will have to close quite soon:

In a statement on its website, Redhill Aerodrome says it has acted in accordance with the terms of the lease which was agreed in 2019. The Aerodrome intends to open a new food and drink facility to serve the commercial users only of the Aerodrome’s business park.
